Karran Harper Royal and her husband, Kenneth, have two sons, Khris and Kendrick, who were both given diagnoses of A.D.H.D. as children. Karran suspects that her brother, who is in prison, also has A.D.H.D., but he is unable to be properly diagnosed until he is released.

While Khris responded well to stimulant medication as a child, his A.D.H.D. was less controlled once he hit puberty. Karran worked with Khris’s doctor to find another medication that worked, but none were as effective.

Karran became involved with Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (C.H.A.D.D.) after learning about Khris’s diagnosis. She says that the support she receives from other members of the organization helps her manage both of her sons, who have very different symptoms.
